Jerusalem, 1 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s higher education institutions have reached a nationwide agreement to provide academic accommodations to students serving in the reserves, ensuring that military duty does not derail their studies. The framework is intended to establish uniform protections across universities and colleges, rather than leaving arrangements to individual institutions.
The agreement, coordinated by the Council for Higher Education and academic institutions, includes special examination arrangements, additional test dates, alternative assessments, and flexibility in attendance requirements.
Students returning from reserve duty will receive assistance catching up through individual or small-group tutoring, while universities will arrange make-up sessions for practical courses and laboratory work.
Institutions must also provide advance notice of examination schedules, with at least five days’ warning. Academic rights will be preserved for students whose studies were interrupted by military service.
The framework aims to ensure reservists can resume their education without penalty for their service.
