TPS: Blame NAZA: Netanyahu Pushes Expansion of Defamation Laws and Citizenship Revocation
Prime Minister Netanyahu proposes new laws to revoke citizenship and increase defamation penalties for those who slander IDF soldiers globally.
Jerusalem, 16 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to advance legislation targeting those he says defame IDF soldiers and Israel abroad, following controversy over the film “NAZA.”
“We will revoke the citizenship of anyone who defames IDF soldiers around the world and hit them hard in the pocket,” Netanyahu said on Wednesday.
Two bills are reportedly planned during the Knesset recess. One, advanced by Justice Minister Yariv Levin, would sharply increase compensation in defamation cases without requiring proof of damages, potentially reaching NIS 1 million ($330,305).
A second bill, through the Interior Ministry, would create a mechanism to revoke the citizenship of people deemed to have defamed IDF soldiers or Israel abroad.
Neither bill has been submitted to committee yet.
