Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s defense establishment has issued a blunt ultimatum to the Finance Ministry: Transfer promised funds by Rosh Hashanah or the IDF will immediately send about 15,000 reservists home.

Some 51,000 reservists are currently serving, and the budget cuts could hit operations in both the north and south. Many have already canceled civilian commitments to remain on duty.

The IDF also warns that the funding crisis could freeze weapons purchases, aircraft procurement and military buildup for a year, even as Iran and other enemies expand their forces.

Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir says the military is on high alert but facing an “empty treasury.” The IDF says promised additional funding has not arrived.

The Finance Ministry rejects the accusations, saying all agreed funds are being transferred and accusing the military of demanding more money instead of managing its budget efficiently.
