Jerusalem, 9 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Two IDF soldiers were lightly injured in southern Lebanon in an incident initially classified as an “operational accident,” but a subsequent military investigation reportedly found that the soldiers had been dismantling gunpowder from ammunition as part of a game, Israeli media reported Friday.
The incident occurred Thursday, raising concerns within the military about unsafe handling of ammunition by troops operating in the field.
The findings point to negligence rather than an accident arising from operational activity, according to the reports. The incident comes as IDF forces continue operating in Southern Lebanon amid ongoing security tensions along Israel’s northern border.
The military’s concerns reportedly center on the dangers of mishandling ammunition and explosives, even away from direct combat. The IDF did not provide further details about disciplinary measures or the soldiers’ identities.
