Jerusalem, 8 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF announced Thursday that it is launching its process for reviewing and awarding military decorations for acts of heroism during the October 7, 2023 battles.

The process will formally begin Wednesday, October 14, at a conference led by Personnel Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa and Military Court of Appeals president Maj. Gen. Orly Markman, with commanders from across the IDF participating.

The conference will present the framework for examining exceptional acts of bravery and sacrifice during the fighting in communities near the Gaza border.

The IDF said the process will be thorough, fact-based, sensitive and transparent, with bereaved families already informed. Exceptional civilian acts of heroism will also be referred to the President’s Advisory Committee for the Civilian Heroism Medal.

The IDF said honoring heroism and preserving the Army’s battle legacy are integral to its responsibility toward soldiers, fallen personnel and their families.
