Jerusalem, 10 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The parents and girlfriend of Yoel Lhanghal, who was murdered by a lynch mob in Kiryat Shmona on October 7, 2022, on Thursday sued the state and the group of youths accused of killing him for $2 million.
Lhanghal immigrated from India six months before his murder. He and his parents belonged to the Bnei Menashe community, whose members believe their ancestors were among the Israelites exiled by the Assyrian Empire in 722 BCE.
The lawsuit alleges the murder could have been prevented and accuses police of failing both at the scene and during the investigation.
“Yoel was brutally murdered by a large group of people armed with weapons, who beat and stabbed him,” the lawsuit states, adding that police investigative failures meant “no one was convicted of his murder.”
The case will be heard in the Central District Court.
