Israel Launches Pilot Program Placing Full-Time Nurses in Elementary Schools
Israel has launched a pilot program placing full-time nurses in eight elementary schools to provide health screenings, vaccinations, and first aid.
Jerusalem, 7 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education have launched a joint pilot program placing full-time registered nurses in elementary schools for the 2026–2027 academic year. Eight schools, selected from roughly 40 applicant local authorities and representing a cross-section of Israeli society, will take part in the one-year trial.
Nurses will serve as permanent on-site staff, providing routine health screenings, vaccinations, and first aid, while managing care for students with chronic conditions or severe allergies. They will also train teachers and students in first aid and health education.
An academic study will evaluate the program’s impact on vaccination rates, health screening compliance, and satisfaction among parents and staff, informing decisions on wider rollout.
