Jerusalem, 5 November, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has unveiled a multi-faceted action plan to develop the nation’s first geothermal energy generation facility, targeting a pilot site in the southern Golan Heights.

The initiative establishes a dual-track strategy to utilize existing subterranean heat extraction techniques while preparing for next-generation geothermal systems. Ministry officials outline five core policy pillars: site feasibility testing, regulatory framework development, financial incentive structures, targeted R&D funding, and infrastructure preparation for commercial deployment.

Based on a report by the Chief Scientist’s Unit, experts project advanced geothermal technology will reach commercial maturity within 5 to 10 years.

Unlike weather-dependent solar or wind installations, geothermal power provides a continuous, baseload renewable energy source to strengthen national grid stability and energy security.
