Police Issue 4,269 Tickets in New Year Road-Safety Crackdown
A nationwide police crackdown issued 4,269 tickets for traffic violations, including distracted driving and school bus safety, generating over NIS 1 million.
Jerusalem, 14 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — With the start of the new school year and the high holidays, police launched a nationwide traffic enforcement campaign, issuing 4,269 tickets to combat road fatalities. The citations included 485 for mobile phone use and distracted driving, 421 for speeding, 201 for two-wheeled vehicle violations, and 73 for red-light offenses.
Police also removed 22 vehicles from the road, including 20 school buses cited for safety violations. Targeted inspections were conducted in several Bedouin communities, including Kuseife, Abu Qrenat, Abu Talul and Ar’arat an-Naqab.
Three drivers were caught operating vehicles without the required license, while two student transport drivers were caught carrying too many passengers. One detained driver had a license that expired in 2009 and was taken for questioning.
Fines from the campaign could generate at least NIS 1 million ($328,400).
