Jerusalem, 29 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Tuesday that Israel’s enemies may attempt to attack ahead of the October 27 elections, prompting opposition criticism that security threats must not be used for Political purposes.
“There are indications that our enemies will attempt to attack us in the run-up to the elections,” Netanyahu said during a visit to Tel Nof Air Force Base in central Israel. “Do not mess with us. Our long arm will reach you anywhere, at any time.”
“In total, over the past few weeks, we have eliminated more than 100 terrorists—and that is just in Gaza,” Netanyahu said.
The prime minister said Israel was facing “immense pressure” to withdraw and relinquish military gains made during the fighting.
“I am not letting that happen, and I will not let it happen,” he said.
Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yesh! party, called on Netanyahu to immediately brief opposition leader Yair Lapid if the reported threat is genuine.
“If your words are true regarding the security threats, you must immediately inform the opposition chairman Yair Lapid,” Eisenkot said.
The Yesh! party said such a briefing was necessary “to ensure that this is indeed a real threat and not a political move intended to harm the election campaign.”
“It is absolutely forbidden to mix Israel’s security with the election campaign,” the party said. “Not even for appearances.”
