The ceremony for the arrival of the submarine INS “Dragon” in Israel took place yesterday (Thursday) at the Haifa base, attended by the President of the State, Mr. Isaac Herzog, the Minister of Defense, Mr. Israel Katz, and presided over by the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, Commander of the Navy, Maj. Gen. Eyal Harel, and additional commanders and soldiers.
The submarine’s arrival in Israel is a milestone in a joint process of planning, development, and construction that has spanned years, led by the Navy and the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the TKMS shipyard in Germany. The submarine set sail from the Kiel shipyard after a launch ceremony where the Israeli flag was hoisted on it.
INS “Dragon” is the sixth submarine for the State of Israel and the third and final in the Dolphin AIP class of submarines, acquired by the Ministry of Defense for the Navy. The submarine incorporates new and advanced technologies, placing Israel at the forefront of global military technology and expanding the operational flexibility of the Navy for many years to come.
The reception of the INS “Dragon” submarine constitutes an additional component in the IDF’s buildup and the strengthening of its underwater capabilities. The advanced technologies integrated into it will expand the operational flexibility of the Navy and its ability to operate covertly in a variety of missions, as part of the response to security challenges and the defense of the State of Israel.
