Urban Renewal Plan Approved for Sderot City Center
A significant urban renewal plan for Sderot's central Palmach complex, featuring 515 new apartments and extensive commercial and public spaces, has been.
Jerusalem, 28 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A major urban renewal plan in central Sderot, in the Western Negev, has been approved by the Southern District Planning and Building Committee.
The Palmach complex plan covers about 8 acres and calls for demolishing three existing residential buildings containing 139 apartments and replacing them with 10 buildings containing 515 apartments.
The project will also include about 1,800 square meters of commercial space, public buildings, employment space, and open areas. Some apartments will be designated as affordable housing.
A new public space with playgrounds, pedestrian paths, and community facilities will be created in the heart of the complex. The plan also allocates about 0.6 acres for public needs, including an early-childhood education facility.
The committee noted that the plan provides approximately 1,200 square meters for public buildings. It also places a strong emphasis on the public realm by strengthening the central city’s street network.
