Jerusalem, 28 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Rabbi Dov Lando, the spiritual leader of the Lithuanian faction of United Torah Judaism, warned on Sunday that the Torah world was facing an “existential war,” urging the Haredi public to recognize the stakes of the current political struggle.
Rabbi Lando made his remarks during a special Sukkot lecture at the new study hall of the Slabodka Yeshiva in the Haredi town of Elad.
Rabbi Lando, 96, stressed the importance of maintaining the Torah world’s institutions and protecting the ability of yeshiva students to continue their studies. He framed the current period as a critical test for the Haredi community and called for unity and determination.
Earlier this month, Rabbi Lando ordered a major leadership shake-up in the Lithuanian party, removing veteran MKs Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev from the party’s election slate. MK Yaakov Asher replaced Gafni.
