Ambassador Leiter Thanks Public for Outpouring of Support for Wounded Son
Ambassador Yechiel Leiter thanks the public for prayers for his son Neria, critically injured by a terrorist car ramming at a checkpoint in Israel.
Jerusalem, 27 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter, said on Sunday that his son Neria, 39, an economist and father of four, remains in critical condition after a Palestinian terrorist rammed him with a car at full speed at a checkpoint on Route 443 last Wednesday while he was on reserve duty.
Speaking to the press at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Leiter said his family was “deeply grateful” for the hundreds of thousands praying for Neria worldwide, calling for prayers for all Israelis wounded by terrorism. “We believe in the power of prayer, that God hears prayer and can heal when healing appears impossible,” he said, describing the fight against terror as “a struggle for the future of civilization.”
Neria’s life remains in danger, said Ambassador Leiter, adding that his family asked the public to keep praying.
