Herzog Urges Unity Ahead of Vote: Elections Are Not a Civil War
President Isaac Herzog urged Israelis to maintain national unity, emphasizing that elections are not a civil war, ahead of the October 27 vote.
Jerusalem, 22 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday called on Israelis to preserve national unity amid a divisive election season, speaking at the state memorial ceremony for the fallen of the Yom Kippur War at Mount Herzl.
Herzog warned that political disagreements must not deepen into an irreversible national rift, saying Israelis must remain committed to one another despite their differences.
“We are certainly allowed to disagree with each other. But we must not give up on each other. We are here to live together. Only together will we have a future,” Herzog said.
He urged Israelis to remember that elections should not undermine their shared responsibility toward future generations, adding: “Elections are not a civil war.”
Israelis are due to vote on October 27.
