Jerusalem, 19 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Arab party leader Ahmad Tibi on Saturday night outlined a post-election plan to replace Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and pursue political changes even without joining a governing coalition.

Speaking on Channel 12’s “Meet the Press,” Tibi, chairman of Hadash-Ta’al, said Arab parties could use their parliamentary strength immediately after the election if opponents of the current government secure a Knesset majority.

He said they would support an alternative candidate for Knesset speaker, arguing that a new speaker would give the opposition control of the Knesset before a government is formed.

Tibi also said Arab parties could recommend a candidate for prime minister to President Isaac Herzog, saying, “I think we will do more than that.”

Speaker Ohana linked the proposal to opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot.
