IDF Foils Weapons and Ammunition Smuggling by Drone Across Eastern Border
IDF forces thwarted a drone smuggling attempt from Jordan, seizing nine Kalashnikov rifles, magazines, and a handgun overnight Monday.
Jerusalem, 28 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — IDF surveillance teams and the Air Control System detected a drone crossing into Israeli territory from Jordan overnight Monday in an apparent attempt to smuggle weapons.
Following the detection, IDF troops from the Yoav Brigade were dispatched to the area and located the drone. It was carrying nine Kalashnikov assault rifles, magazines and a handgun.
The weapons and ammunition were recovered and transferred to security forces for further investigation and handling.
The IDF said its forces remain deployed along the eastern border and continue monitoring attempts to smuggle weapons into Israel.
The incident comes as Israeli security forces continue efforts to prevent weapons trafficking across the country’s borders, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles to transport weapons and other illicit cargo.
