Israel's 2026-27 rainy season is predicted to be exceptionally wet due to a "Super El Niño," following two dry years.
Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The 2026–2027 hydrological year in Israel, starting October 1, is expected to be unusually wet, with above-average rainfall. This is mainly linked to the global climate phenomenon known as “Super El Niño.”
According to the Israel Meteorological Service, October through December 2026 could be especially rainy, with about 120% of the long-term average rainfall expected. Northern Israel and the eastern Mediterranean are likely to see the strongest effects.
The early fall could be warmer than usual.
This outlook comes after two dry years. 2024–2025 was the driest year on record, while 2025–2026 reached about 90% of average rainfall. However, groundwater recharge was only 70%.
