Jerusalem, 29 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has unveiled a economic assessment showing that battery electricity storage systems present a superior financial, environmental, and operational alternative to traditional emergency backup generators in shared residential buildings.
The evaluation revealed that for certain residential building types, storage systems are already tens of thousands of shekels cheaper to install and maintain than traditional generators, with costs expected to fall further as battery prices decline.
Storage systems also eliminate noise and soil pollution while offering lower routine electricity costs and enhanced backup reliability during power outages.
To facilitate the transition, energy officials and the Planning Administration are actively amending building regulations to allow property developers to install battery storage in lieu of mandatory generators.
