Israel to Open First Resident Embassy in Slovenia, Fifth New Embassy in Two Years
Israel inaugurates its first resident embassy in Slovenia on Sept 9-10, marking the fifth new embassy opened by the nation in two years.
Jerusalem, 8 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar will travel to Ljubljana on September 9–10 to inaugurate Israel’s first-ever resident embassy in Slovenia, marking the fifth embassy Israel has opened in the past two years.
The move follows warming ties since Prime Minister Janez Janša’s government took office in June 2026 and expressed support for Israel within the EU. Israel announced the embassy’s opening on June 4, and appointed Ruth Cohen-Dar as Resident Ambassador within three months.
Sa’ar’s visit will be the first by an Israeli foreign minister to Slovenia since 2010. The two countries will sign a cultural cooperation agreement, and Sa’ar will be accompanied by a business delegation for an Israeli-Slovenian economic forum.
Israel and Slovenia established diplomatic relations in 1992.
