Soldier Suspected of Stealing 3 Weapons Belonging to Special Force
A soldier at the Shayetet 13 naval commando base near Haifa is suspected of stealing three M-16 rifles from fellow soldiers. A joint investigation is ongoing.
Jerusalem, 10 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A soldier serving at the Shayetet 13 naval commando base south of Haifa was arrested on suspicion of stealing three M-16 rifles directly from combat soldiers in his unit.
The theft reportedly occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, after the weapons had been collected from the soldiers at the base. The soldier, who serves at the facility, was arrested for questioning after suspicions arose of insider involvement.
Due to concerns that the stolen weapons could reach criminal or terrorist elements, the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (MPCID) and the Israel Police launched a joint investigation and are working to locate the missing rifles.
The IDF said it considers the incident extremely serious and is working with police to prevent similar incidents.
