Sirens and Gunfire in Chase after Illegal Palestinian on Route 1
A 17-year-old Palestinian suspect illegally in Israel led police on a chase on Route 1, ending in an arrest near Jerusalem after a vehicle collision.
Jerusalem, 4 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A dramatic police chase unfolded on Route 1 last Friday, after a 17-year-old Palestinian from Hebron, allegedly staying in Israel illegally, was Suspected of stealing a vehicle and fleeing from police, Israeli media reported Sunday morning.
Officers pursued the vehicle along the busy highway, using sirens and firing shots into the air as they attempted to stop the suspect. The chase ended near the Sakharov Interchange in Jerusalem after the fleeing vehicle collided with a bus.
Police arrested the teenager at the scene.
A search reportedly found additional items in his possession, and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the suspected vehicle theft and his entry into Israel.
The incident caused a major police response and was captured on video. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, including whether others were involved in the suspected theft or the teenager’s illegal entry into Israel.
