Jerusalem, 15 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Border Police arrested a driver and four undocumented passengers following a high-speed pursuit near Jerusalem on Thursday. The vehicle rammed through the A-Za’im security checkpoint at the northern end of the city, blew its tires on deployed spike strips, and continued driving recklessly toward Route 1, endangering motorists.

The vehicle eventually stopped near the Isawiya neighborhood, where the driver fled on foot. Officers initiated a foot pursuit, firing a warning shot into the air after the suspect ignored commands to halt, ultimately apprehending him.

Four undocumented Palestinian residents inside the vehicle were also taken into custody.

All five suspects were transferred to the Shalem Police Station in Jerusalem for questioning as security forces maintain heightened enforcement against illegal transport through capital checkpoints.
