Jerusalem, 22 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — JERUSALEM — Israel’s Real Estate Enforcement Authority launched a nationwide crackdown targeting unauthorized balconies and permanent building additions erected ahead of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, officials announced.
Authorities clarified that the targeted operations do not affect standard temporary holiday huts (sukkahs) used over the Sukkot holiday, but focus exclusively on unpermitted permanent structures and metal frameworks posing severe public safety hazards.
Formal warning notices have been served to contractors, metal fabrication workshops, and suppliers. Municipalities, including Bnei Brak, teamed up with rabbinic leaders to issue community warnings against hazardous building practices. Violators face immediate stop-work orders and administrative fines exceeding hundreds of thousands of shekels, with legal liability extending to both property owners and contractors.
