Jerusalem, 25 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Elections Committee has received more than 276 petitions ahead of the upcoming Knesset election, roughly five times the number filed during the previous election, according to Israeli media.

The surge places a significant burden on committee chairman Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, who is responsible for adjudicating election-related disputes and ensuring that the campaign complies with the law.

Petitions submitted during an election campaign can challenge political advertising, candidates, party activities, and alleged violations of election regulations. The unusually high volume reflects the growing number of legal disputes surrounding the campaign.

Sohlberg and the committee will need to address the petitions as the election approaches, balancing the parties’ right to campaign with the legal requirements governing the electoral process.
