Jerusalem, 25 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — A preliminary memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Finance, and the Municipality of Rishon LeZion, for the extension of the Red Line of the light rail to that city.

The Red Line will be extended south from Bat Yam to Rishon LeZion, and will include four new elevated stations. This is the first time such an agreement has been signed that includes a partnership between government agencies – Transportation, Treasury, National Transportation Safety Board – and a local authority.
