Jerusalem, 8 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF is overhauling its female observation corps Three Years after the October 7 attack, introducing new training, technology and deployment procedures, Israeli media reported Thursday.
The changes follow warnings that went unanswered before and during the October 7 assault.
The changes also include weapons training, live-fire exercises and hand-to-hand combat instruction, allowing observation soldiers to better defend themselves after observation posts and command centers came under attack.
The IDF is also developing an advanced “see-shoot” system and other technologies designed to help observers not only identify threats but also assist forces operating in the field.
The observation corps will no longer operate as an isolated frontline force, as some command centers have been moved farther from the Gaza border, while the military plans additional fortification or relocation of facilities that remain inadequately protected.
