Democrats Petition High Court to Require Shin Bet Protection for Yair Golan
The Democrats party has petitioned Israel's High Court to mandate Shin Bet security for leader Yair Golan, citing numerous death threats ahead of the upcoming.
Jerusalem, 29 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Democrats party filed an urgent petition with Israel’s High Court of Justice on Tuesday, demanding that Shin Bet chief David Zini and the government immediately provide security for party leader Yair Golan.
The petition was filed less than a month before the Knesset election, amid claims that Golan faces dozens of explicit and concrete death threats.
According to the Democrats party, police have assessed the threat against Golan as level 4 out of 6, but he has not been granted personal security.
The petition includes examples of threats allegedly directed against Golan and requests an interim order and an urgent hearing. The Democrats party argues that the lack of protection could restrict Golan’s ability to campaign publicly.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin previously authorized the Shin Bet to determine security arrangements for unprotected party leaders, but no decision has yet been announced.
