TPS: Defense Minister Fires Back at Ofer Winters Hamas Accusations
Defense Minister Israel Katz countered Brig. Gen. (res.) Ofer Winter's Hamas accusations, detailing significant IDF progress in Gaza and dismantling terrorist.
Jerusalem, 16 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Brig. Gen. (res.) Ofer Winter, chairman of the Amcha Israel party, accused Israel’s political leadership Tuesday of failing to secure Hamas’s total defeat, writing: “Three years of war, five divisions that fought in Gaza, and there is still a [Hamas] commander for Rafah?”
The post came shortly after the IDF and Shin Bet announced the killing of Naal Abu Obeid, commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade.
Defense Minister Israel Katz fired back Wednesday, arguing Rafah and 70% of Gaza are now empty of residents, with tunnels destroyed and IDF forces deployed along the “Yellow Line” surrounding the remaining territory while eliminating terrorists weekly.
Katz likened Winter’s criticism to that of former officials “sitting in television studios” pushing an “outdated security doctrine” that ignores achievements in Iran, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. He called such rhetoric “very concerning regarding future scenarios.”
