Unnamed sources
Our stories name their source. This page explains when a source is not named and what that means.
Last reviewed ·
In brief
- Our stories normally name the person or body behind the information.
- When a story relies on a source we do not name, it says so.
- We do not offer secure channels for confidential sources.
Named by default
Our stories come from named official bodies, the TPS news agency, and named writers, and they say so. Wire stories may quote people the agency did not name; in that case the attribution is the agency's.
When a source is not named
If one of our own articles relies on a source we do not name, the article says that the source was not named and, where possible, why.
Confidential information
We do not operate encrypted or anonymous channels for confidential sources. Do not send us information that could put you at risk through our ordinary email address.
