Jerusalem, 15 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s National Planning and Building Council approved submission of a plan to build the new Alexander Interchange and upgrade Highway 553 in the Sharon region, creating a direct connection to Highway 6.

The project, advanced through the Cross-Israel Company, will link communities in the Sharon area to Highway 6 at the junction of Highways 6, 444, and 553, aiming to ease congestion on nearby roads, particularly Highways 2 and 4.

Officials said the upgraded highway will serve as a key regional route, improving connectivity for local communities as the area continues to develop in the coming years.

Highway 6, which cuts through the center of the country from the north down to the Negev in the south, is Israel’s only toll road.
