Update on Wednesdays Terrorist Car-Ramming Attack: Incident Occurred During Routine Traffic Check
A police officer was severely injured in a car-ramming attack near Jerusalem's Bell Checkpoint on Highway 443; the suspect was killed by IDF forces.
Jerusalem, 23 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — JERUSALEM — a police officer was severely injured Wednesday when an assailant accelerated a vehicle into a traffic inspection post near the Bell Checkpoint on Highway 443, Israeli authorities confirmed.
The police said the incident occurred during routine vehicle checks on a service lane parallel to the main thoroughfare. IDF forces stationed nearby shot and killed the suspect as he attempted to flee after hitting the officer. Emergency responders evacuated the wounded officer to a hospital for emergency medical care.
Forensics teams, traffic accident investigators, and Modi’in Illit police are processing evidence at the site. Judea and Samaria District Commander Maj. Gen. Moshe Pinchi convened an on-scene operational assessment to coordinate the ongoing investigation.
