Jerusalem, 16 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A shepherd from the Tzon Aviezer hilltop outpost in Samaria discovered a monument this week on a ridge overlooking Nahal Kana that residents identified as commemorating Muhammad Hajj Ali, who was reportedly linked to the Hamas cell behind the December 2001 bus bombing near Emmanuel that killed 10 Israelis and wounded over 20.
Residents are now demanding the IDF remove the monument under Israel’s 1998 law banning memorials to terrorists, which allows the defense minister to order removal of qualifying monuments in Judea and Samaria.
The monument, built by residents of the nearby village of Jamma’in on land under Palestinian Authority control per the Oslo Accords, reportedly earned the ridge the nickname “Land of the Martyrs” among Palestinians.
Israeli authorities must now verify the monument’s subject and determine whether it meets the legal conditions for removal.
