Jerusalem, 1 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, the Energy and Infrastructure Ministry, and the Water Authority announced that the Water Authority Council unanimously approved an increase of up to 15% in potable water supply for agriculture in the national system for 2026, beyond the standard quantity stipulated in existing licenses.
The move aims to assist farmers following drought conditions and allocation cuts over the past year. In recent months, more than 300 requests for additional water, totaling approximately 35.8 million cubic meters, were submitted to the Agriculture Ministry.
The decision follows significant cuts to agricultural water allocations in 2026, with the national allocation reduced from approximately 380 million cubic meters in 2025 to around 290 million, and allocations near the Sea of Galilee cut from approximately 92 million to around 60 million cubic meters.
