UTJs Lithuanian Faction Launches Election Campaign: The Right to Be Haredi
United Torah Judaism's Lithuanian faction, Degel HaTorah, has launched its election campaign under the slogan "The Right to Be Haredi," led by MK Yaakov Asher.
Jerusalem, 27 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — United Torah Judaism’s Degel HaTorah Lithuanian faction launched its 2026 election campaign this weekend, under the slogan “The Right to Be Haredi.”
The move was announced by MK Yaakov Asher, who was recently appointed to lead Degel HaTorah.
Asher said the campaign would focus on the Haredi public’s political representation and hailed the opposition bloc for maintaining cooperation despite internal disagreements.
MK Moshe Gafni, who was removed from the party’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Dov Lando, to be replaced by Asher, said Degel HaTorah had always followed the guidance of its rabbinic leadership and would continue doing so. “We stood the test and did everything we were instructed to do,” Gafni said.
Degel HaTorah and its Hasidic partner, Agudat Yisrael, running together as United Torah Judaism, are receiving between 6 and 8 seats in the polls.
