Jerusalem, 6 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Likud withdrew its petition against the AID Coalition’s “Fly&Vote” initiative following a hearing Tuesday before Central Elections Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg.
The initiative assists Israelis living abroad who want to return to Israel to vote in the October 27 election. The petition had alleged that the project’s activities could violate election and campaign-financing laws. Before the hearing, Sohlberg had demanded detailed information about the initiative’s services, payments and operations. According to reports, only about 500 Israelis had registered.
Following the hearing and Sohlberg’s recommendation, Likud attorney Ilan Bombach withdrew the petition, and the case was deleted.
Fly&Vote said it would continue working to help Israeli citizens return home to vote. Israel does not permit ordinary absentee voting, meaning citizens abroad must physically return to Israel to cast ballots. The dispute had focused on whether logistical assistance for returning voters could constitute an impermissible election benefit.
