Hamas Data on Destroyed Food Offers Evidence of Gaza Surplus
Hamas data shows over 30 tons of food destroyed in Gaza in two weeks, with COGAT citing surpluses and mismanagement, not shortages.
Jerusalem, 2 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip) released further evidence pointing to food surpluses in Gaza, citing figures from Hamas’s own Ministry of Economy showing that more than 30 tons of food were destroyed across the Strip in the past two weeks alone.
The destroyed goods reportedly included 2.1 tons of frozen chicken in Khan Younis, 200 kilograms of expired semolina and snacks, 106 kilograms of frozen chicken in northern Gaza, more than 14 tons of cheese in Gaza Governorate, 13.5 tons of frozen chicken in central Gaza, and flour stocks.
COGAT said the reports confirm its consistent position that the volume of food entering Gaza significantly exceeds the population’s needs. “This is not a shortage,” COGAT said. “It is an oversupplied market suffering from poor storage and mismanagement, compounded by Hamas’s taxation of goods and control over their circulation.”
