Jerusalem, 6 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — JERUSALEM — Central Elections Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg urged lawmakers Monday to modernize Israel’s Election Propaganda laws, while emphasizing that current prohibitions on using public resources remain strictly binding.

The ruling addressed petitions regarding press conference footage and cabinet meeting remarks posted across official ministry channels and private official accounts of the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers. Petitioners argued the content constituted illegal campaign propaganda funded by public assets.

Although officials removed the material from state channels after petitions were filed, Sohlberg ruled the remaining private posts violated election law because they utilized government-produced video. Sohlberg called on the Knesset to adapt legacy regulations for the digital era while enforcing compliance ahead of upcoming elections.
