Jerusalem, 26 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF is set to introduce a new system for providing strictly kosher, “Mehadrin” meals to Haredi soldiers within about two weeks, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said Wednesday.
The move is part of measures led by the IDF Chief of Staff’s adviser on Haredi affairs, Brig. Gen. Avinoam Emunah, to improve service conditions and accommodate Haredi soldiers’ needs.
The IDF Central Supply Center and Logistics Corps developed the new system, which will gradually replace the sealed meal trays that have been the primary food option for soldiers requiring Mehadrin certification.
Under the new system, Haredi soldiers will receive fresh and varied Mehadrin meals through the regular food service at military bases, while maintaining their religious lifestyle.
Brig. Gen. Emunah said the IDF must ensure Haredi soldiers receive the conditions needed to serve effectively, with dignity and over the long term.
