Legal Affairs

Jerusalem, 18 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A 31-year-old resident of Tamra in the Lower Galilee region has been indicted on multiple security offenses following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District Police Central Unit.

Sultan Abu al-Hija was arrested on August 28 by a Border Police National Guard counterterrorism unit. During his interrogation by The Shin Bet and Northern District investigators, authorities said he admitted to contacting Hamas’s Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the terror group’s military wing in Gaza, several times, in an effort to secretly assist the organization.

Investigators also found that Abu al-Hija had established contact with Iranian intelligence operatives. According to authorities, however, he had not carried out any assignments for them before his arrest.

An indictment was filed Friday morning in Haifa District Court by attorney Shir Moshayov of the Haifa District Prosecution.
