Jerusalem, 21 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday ordered the release to house arrest of detainees arrested last weekend in cases involving an American journalist and a French diplomat, with one exception.

Regarding four suspects accused of attacking the journalist, Judge Moriah Tzarka noted that the video presented showed the alleged assault occurring amid a larger incident of extensive stone-throwing by Palestinians, which the suspects were not accused of participating in.

Police had already released two suspects, including a medic who provided documented evidence that he arrived to assist the injured.

In the French diplomat case, one suspect was released because the suspicion against him was weak, while the court extended the detention of another suspect, citing strengthened suspicions.

The Honenu legal aid organization criticized the arrests as unjustified and politically motivated, arguing that law enforcement had yielded to external pressure.
