The process will be carried out in several stages: In the first stage, brigade commanders will submit their recommendations for awarding commendations and decorations, for the approval of the division commander. Subsequently, the recommendations will be forwarded for the approval of the relevant Major General. Recommendations that are approved will be transferred to a regional committee. The regional committee in the General Staff will be headed by a Major General. In the next stage, the General Staff committee will convene to examine the recommendations of the regional committee for Chief of Staff commendations and decorations. The recommendations of the General Staff committee will be forwarded for the decision of the Chief of Staff, and subsequently, recommendations for awarding the Medal of Valor will be forwarded for the approval of the Minister of Defense. Alongside the heroism of IDF service members, during the battles from October 7th until the beginning of the maneuver in the Gaza Strip, exceptional civilian acts of heroism also stood out, which became part of the heroism stories of that day. Within the framework of the process, appropriate cases of exceptional civilian acts of heroism will be transferred for examination by the advisory committee to the President of the State, in accordance with the existing mechanism for awarding the “President’s Medal for Civilian Heroism,” within which cases were examined and medals were awarded during the war. Additional cases that will be transferred to the President’s Residence will also be examined by the committee. The IDF views honoring the acts of heroism and sacrifice of its service members and commemorating the combat heritage as an integral part of its duty towards its service members, its fallen, and their families.
