Jerusalem, 20 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel has been accepted as a partner of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Secretary General Baron Divavesi Waqa informed Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar following a meeting of the forum’s member-state leaders in Palau.

The partnership will promote cooperation in water management, desalination, agriculture, climate change, innovation, and sustainable development. Israel and the forum will develop an action plan outlining practical initiatives and monitoring implementation.

The decision follows Sa’ar’s visit to Fiji in June, where he met with Waqa and submitted Israel’s request to join the regional organization.

Israel opened an embassy in Fiji this year to strengthen ties with Pacific Island nations. Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and Nauru have also opened embassies in Jerusalem.
