Jerusalem, 31 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Police arrested the incumbent head of a southern local council on suspicion of bribery, fraud, and additional offenses, following a covert investigation conducted over recent months.
The investigation focused on suspected bribery involving bid rigging, fraud, breach of trust, and fictitious employment of council workers to fraudulently obtain funds for personal use.
As the investigation moved to its open phase Wednesday, officers arrested seven suspects, including senior council officials, the council head, and family members, while detaining six additional suspects for questioning. Searches were conducted at the local authority offices.
Depending on the needs of the investigation, the suspects will be brought later today before the Rishon LeZion Magistrate’s Court for a detention extension hearing.
