Jerusalem, 11 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Lod District Court on Sunday morning sentenced Rawan Abd al-Hayy, a former assistant at Sigal’s Daycare in Hod Hasharon, to 10 years in prison for 277 offenses of violence against eight toddlers aged eight months to a year and a half.
The offenses occurred between May and July 2023 while the children were under her care. Abd al-Hayy was convicted of multiple counts of abuse of a helpless minor and aggravated assault, among other offenses.
The court also ordered her to pay the children’s parents a total of NIS 450,000 ($147,000) in compensation.
Evidence included incidents in which al-Hayy kicked and struck toddlers, covered their heads with blankets, and forcibly restrained them on mattresses. The case emerged in 2023, after security camera footage exposed repeated violence against the children.
