Jerusalem, 1 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 100 bottles of liquid nicotine, each 1.5 liters, into the Gaza Strip on Sunday, after the substance was concealed inside beverage bottles at the Kerem Shalom Crossing.

The smuggling attempt was detected by the security inspection array of the Land Crossings Authority in the Defense Ministry.

The truck carried a shipment purchased by an Israeli company approved under the private sector humanitarian aid mechanism, intended to enter Gaza as humanitarian aid. The truck and its contents were confiscated and transferred to Customs and other authorities.

COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip) Maj. Gen. Yoram Halevi ordered the immediate freeze of the company’s permit to bring aid into Gaza until further notice.
