Israel Reports 44 Road Deaths in August Despite Fewer Overall Accidents
Despite a 23% drop in road accidents, Israel recorded 44 traffic fatalities in August 2026, an increase from the previous year.
Jerusalem, 27 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — JERUSALEM — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported that 44 people were killed in road accidents in August 2026, up from 38 in August 2025 and higher than the 2022–2024 August average of 29 fatalities, even as the total number of accidents declined sharply.
The number of accidents fell 23.0% year-on-year to 490, while total casualties dropped 25.2% to 865 and serious injuries fell 10.3% to 200.
For the January–August period overall, 300 people were killed on Israeli roads, ten fewer than the same period in 2025, suggesting fatalities may be increasingly concentrated in fewer but more severe incidents.
