Israeli App Wins FDA Clearance to Adjust Insulin Doses Without Waiting for Doctor
Israeli startup DreaMed Diabetes's MODI app gains FDA clearance, empowering type 2 diabetes patients to adjust insulin doses via smartphone without physician.
Jerusalem, 28 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli startup DreaMed Diabetes has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for MODI, an app providing personalized insulin dose recommendations for adults with type 2 diabetes.
The app analyzes blood sugar and treatment data, then sends recommendations to patients’ smartphones without requiring physician approval for each adjustment.
According to Israeli media, about 85% of insulin users rely on injections, representing over eight million people in the United States. MODI is designed to help patients make adjustments between clinic visits, reducing the burden on medical staff.
While insulin technologies have focused on type 1 diabetes patients using pumps, MODI targets adults with type 2 diabetes using injections.
The app was named after Modi Amir, a 67-year-old tech professional from Kibbutz Kfar Aza who was killed on October 7.
DreaMed Diabetes was founded in 2014 and is based in Kfar Saba.
