Luxurious Mikvah Opens in Pervomaisk, Ukraine, First Since Holocaust
Pervomaisk, Ukraine, inaugurates its first mikvah since the Holocaust, a significant step in rebuilding Jewish life with support from donors and rabbis.
Jerusalem, 25 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A new mikvah has opened in Pervomaisk, Ukraine, marking the First such facility in the city since the Holocaust.
The inauguration drew community members despite the light rain, celebrating what leaders called a milestone in rebuilding Jewish life after decades of destruction and upheaval. The project was made possible through support from donors and Jewish organizations.
Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Perlstein, the local Chabad emissary who serves the Jewish community with his wife, Chana, described the mikvah’s long construction journey, which began before the COVID-19 pandemic and was completed amid the challenges of war.
Rabbi Shalom Gottlieb, chief rabbi of Mykolaiv and its region, and Rabbi Daniel Lanau of Kyiv also addressed the gathering. The ceremony culminated in a ribbon-cutting and the opening of the facility, followed by a celebratory reception. Community leaders said the next goal is building a central synagogue.
