Jerusalem, 26 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Following an amendment to the Prohibition of Fraud in Kashrut Law published July 19, the Religious Services Ministry’s director general and acting Chief Rabbinate director general, Yehuda Avidan, issued a clarification to city, regional and local community rabbis nationwide: kashrut certificates will now be granted solely by the rabbi authorized for the specific jurisdiction in which he serves.
Under Section 2(2) of the law, a local rabbi may grant kashrut certification to businesses, slaughterhouses or manufacturing plants only within the boundaries of the local authority he serves.
Accordingly, city rabbis can no longer certify businesses outside their city, regional rabbis outside their regional council, and local community rabbis outside their community — except where the Chief Rabbinate Council of Israel has granted explicit authorization for a specific area or food type.
